Maybe, maybe not. If you expect your kid to mostly stay close to family and childhood friends, it doesn't matter how hard they try to change their name - their family will still call them what they will. We have old friends who still call my sister Ginger. I called her that ages after she stopped referring to herself by that name, and I would still call her that except that even when she went by Ginger I sometimes called her Jenn (much to her consternation at the time!)
