At the last possible second for "see you next week!" that doesn't make people work overtime.

It's pretty much what I expected. LJ made no changes yet, promised to make very few changes "in the next update", and all of a sudden the same people who hours ago were still comparing the recent code change to rape and LJ to a physically abusive partner, who as recently as yesterday were discussing calling the ACLU (see, it's stuff like this that makes me say some people were overreacting just a little bit. Is LJ linking to Facebook really a civil liberties issue?), who for the past week have been passing around DW invite codes like candy (VOX works for everybody, apparently)...

Yeah, these people are all going "YAY! YOU ARE AWESOME! THANK YOU FOR LISTENING!" all over the comments.

It's odd, isn't it? *sighs*

Ah, well, I'd been religiously cross posting to DW for a while now with the intent of moving over there; this has just been the final straw. Just going to do it faster, is all.

Some of the overreactions are...bizarre. So are some of the underreactions. Me, my main objection was the one piece they're saying they'll change. If the stated fix rolls out with the next code push, they've done what I wanted.

I wouldn't have minded if they'd rolled back the whole feature, or all of the comments, but the only piece that really bugged me as far as privacy was the protected-post piece.

And...I don't read most of the comments on news posts...but there were actually people discussing the ACLU and comparing it to rape? *boggles* *boggles harder*

I do like how the people all of a sudden start singing LJ's praises when clearly, LJ should never, ever have made it possible for screened or FO comments to be crossposted. And what's with the wording of crossposting only containing a LINK--and then 1 second later, the whole comment or snippet thereof. DOUBLEspeak!

To keep an open mind about it, I suppose that some people feel things in different ways, the way some might perceive human touch to be horrific burning sensation like being set on fire, while others might just feel a happy, stimulating jolt from a snake bite.

Perhaps there are people whose sense of basic dignity and priority is such that, for their experiences, this sort of violation of trust and privacy really is similar to the subjective experience of being raped.

...or perhaps they're just Internet frothing. :/

...comparing it to rape and considering calling in the ACLU...

.......

I don't even

Though I might compare these people's reaction and LJ's treatment to an abusive relationship. :/

It's also ridiculous seeing how some of the people who run DW are the ones who caught huge amounts of flak back when they used to work at LJ...
