However, none on my butt or the front, so I figured that if I sat still we could still hang out at the playground we'd just gotten to and we'd be fine. No need to rush home, I had pads with me, I'd be just as bloody there as here, right? (Oxyclean got it right out. I mean, if you really get close and stare you can see there's some kinda stain, but anybody's that close to my crotch I'm gonna assume at this point that my pants are OFF and I don't very much care.) Of course, I kinda wished I'd brought my kanga, or that it was a little colder and I had a sweater, so I could wrap it around my waist. My mom interjects as I'm telling her this amazing story of Oxyclean with "Yeah, right, like anybody doesn't know what THAT'S all about, every woman knows that one!" to which I can only say "Yeah, maybe it is like saying 'I'm bleeding through my crotch, wanna make sumthin' outta it?', but is that really any worse than potentially showing the world your massive bloodstain on your pants?"

But then I got to wondering... do guys know what's up when somebody just randomly ties her jacket (or convenient kanga/sarong) around her waist?

When I tie something around my waist it usually means

1. my lower body is colder than my upper body and needs it more

2. I don't need to wear it but it's less trouble down there

Occasionally I've done it to cover something, but nothing interesting enough to remember.

Most of the time when I have a jacket/sweater tied around my waist it just means I didn't feel like carrying it anymore and wanted my hands free.

I typically prefer not to have bags on me either. Pockets FTW.

This.

Which also means that it's unlikely to happen if the weather is very hot (I probably wouldn't have taken along my coat in the first place) or very cold (I probably wouldn't have taken it off).

I've done things to cover stains and tears, but usually only by means that aren't necessarily for that. And yes, I do tie my jacket around my waist when it's too warm for one and I don't feel like carrying it by hand/arm/shoulder. And I don't notice other people's "issues" - certainly not as much as I worry about them noticing any of mine.

I usually have a sweater around my waist in the summer because the weather here is so damn fickle it's just convenient having another layer handy. Accordingly, it wouldn't seem out of the ordinary for me to do it.

I almost always have my sweater tied around my waist at work when possible, and do it a lot outside of work too. Generally I do it because 1. I don't always have a bag large enough to fit the sweater. 2. I'm sort of cold but not cold enough to put the sweater -on- (this is mainly at work.. It warms me up a little still when it's around my waist). 3. More convenient access and I'm lazy.

Sometimes I kind of like how it looks that way as well, for some reason.

I think I've done the sweater or jacket around the waist thing for about 5 years before I started menstruating. It usually means it was too warm to wear it, but I thought I might need it and misjudged, it got warmer, or I expect to be out when it is cooler and I will want it later.

Nowadays I'm having real problems with thermoregulation. I get too warm easily, then I'm too cold, then back to too warm, etc. So, layers are really useful and I am quite likely to do that because it is a convenient way to carry a sweater or jacket. I hate to carry things in my hands because I need one hand for my cane, and I don't want to have no hands free. Having no hands free is guaranteed to make something itch or bring on a sneeze or otherwise make you want to have a free hand. I like carrying as little as possible as it just makes walking a bit easier. I can actually carry quite a lot if it's on my back and the weight is distributed well. But it will slow me down and a backpack might also contribute to warmth.

As far as I am concerned my waist/hips are a storage area, and I pity men that their hips aren't as convenient as mine.

Sweaters, jackets and such by they way are by no means the end of what I keep around my waist. The waist is very good for storing halters, ropes, bridles, reins and other elongate things one might need around horses in such a way that the horses don't notice that you are carrying said thing, and it won't hinder you in any way when having to do things quickly.

I think I stopped tying jackets around my waist in middle school, when my attention span started to include things like 'continue holding'. But I am still a little bothered that no one in high school ever pointed out my pantstains-- I usually wasn't aware of them until I got home.

I've always worn this style a lot, because I get chilly when I sit or stand, but I warm up fast when I'm moving, and I hate having my arms encumbered.
